A LETTER TO STUDENTS OF FILM SCHOOLS

(This is a translation of a letter written in spanish language by Carlos Martinho)

Dear students of film, audiovisual and other schools,

When working with actresses and actors, we ask you to:

1. When you call for a casting, send the script of the short film, the actor/actress we must know if we want to participate or not, no matter how good the script can be that she or he can not be interested. It saves everyone time. Send at least one dull reprint so the actress/actor can get used to the idea of what's to come. It makes no sense to cast a short film in which we don't know how much weight our character will have.

2. You have our video-book, photos, etc. When you do a casting, remember that we lend you our work for free, don't abuse it. With a test you have enough, you do not need: a scene, a monologue written by the actor himself, an improvisation and the analysis of the character... too much is too much... Plus we have life and work in other things (we are actors but we eat too).

3. Indicate for which character the actress/actor is going to the casting. It's very useful.

4. List casting and filming dates. This saves everyone time in case there is no availability.

5. Indicate if there are nudity or bed scenes before casting. You will save a lot of time and money for a lot of people (casting transfers cost money)

6. In online castings (That's normally enough), send us the text you want us to interpret. Do not ask us for a scene of our choice, because you already have this video book which cost us so much. The video book is a working tool to facilitate your casting process. enjoy!

7. Studying and preparing a script and a role takes a lot of time, keep that in mind. It's not something that can be done properly in 2 days. When you go to record a short film, the actor/actress has been preparing it for days. Also in the casting.

8. “Our work involves a collaboration agreement”. We offer our work for free in exchange for your feedback in the form of images. Send a link with the short where it can be downloaded. If you don't finish the editing for any reason, send the roughs (close-up, selections, excerpts with our interpretation), that's also useful to us.

9. A professional short film is remunerated. An unpaid short film is amateur by definition, however professional you may be. It's great that you invest money in your technical team, but your essential raw material and your stories are fed by actors, actresses... Treat us accordingly with respect.

Thank you very much for considering it.

I didn't know who the author was, but I found out that he is Carlos Martinho: thanks Carlos
